Bring the understated beauty of Australia’s south-eastern waters to your space with this detailed portrayal of the Eastern School Whiting (Sillago flindersi). Painted traditionally in watercolour and acrylic on archival Arches 300gsm cotton rag smooth paper, the piece blends research-grade accuracy with fine-art nuance. Commissioned by Melissa Tan of Southern Cross University to support a large research project on Sillago flindersi, the artwork celebrates the species’ slender, silvery form, subtle sand-toned markings, and specific identifiable characteristics such as the oblique rusty-red bands along the back and upper side, indistinct silver midlateral stripe bordered above by small rusty-red blotches and the absence of a dark spot at the pectoral-fin base (seen in other whiting species). An understated fish with an important place in coastal ecosystems and local fisheries.
Available across a range of products, each item features a high-resolution reproduction that preserves the original’s crisp linework and refined palette.
